Warcraft 2 Bio
Main WC2 Username | Panda |
---|---|
Began Playing | 1994-1995 |
Quit Playing | 1999 |
Map / Speed / Resource Preference | I openly told my opponent to always choose on ladder. If I had to pick it would be GSEFW a true test of man and his APM. |
Favorite Unit | Sapper by far (transition into lust right after first raid). Second to that is the zapper flier dude. Knowing they enemy is #1. |
Clans You've Belonged To | Sadly can't remember and I even started some |
Accomplishments | 1st on ladder in hall of fame |
Favorite Allies | LooneyLiz (played most games together) |
Favorite Enemies | DI and Dark Tangent members (always respectful and intuitive). I know all DI hated my guts, but that is ok its better that way ;). Azteca was highly competitive, glad after years of controversy we became friends and did well as allies in SC for a bit before I went into the Navy |
Shout-Outs | Played tons of 1v1 with Navim, ash, khb, (~angel~ 6k membership) |

Long Form Answers
Best skill?
Knowing and recognizing my opponents weakness as well as identifying my ally strength.
Worst “skill”?
Adjusting to latency/lag. I detested BNET edition. How do they ruin the game by making it lag and speeding it up smh...That is why I always let opponent choose map/settings as long as we played stabile settings (full speed no latency aka pkt:3)
If you could change one thing about War2 what would it be?
Since I saw too many people playing it safe on this one I feel a duty to share an opinion.
Chat: We were all a bunch of kids back then. Those who didn't know their place learned after the fact so with that said, I believe in freedom, esp being a vet. I feel like the social aspect being a fairly new platform to the internet made interaction while gaming a pure form of social interaction that some should have cherished a bit instead of took for granted.
People: I noticed when I was doing solo ladder hit #1 a few times there were some people who had to be dishonest in their reporting and or drag it out to be a "poor sport" and I recognized through friends who made a habit out of it or not. This lead to * regret section *
Favorite strategy?
Raiding together the first expansion of a 2v2 team with my ally using the first sapper to cause maximum damage. One goes sapper fast other goes lust..use on each other and boom. Soon as the zepper sees the mine the sapper hits it within 5 seconds and we're in and its on.
Anything you regret?
When I hit #1 (my HOF record take -30-35 losses) I was going into the navy and I realized that there were many dishonest people in the top 30 or so ranks and I reported some losses to players I recognized as honorable and that have had similiar issues with some players.
Confessions
I feared nobody and teamed with anybody cooperative and respectful. I recognized the tension with many players and acted accordingly - as well as accepted even tho I respected their game we would never become allies :). After all you can't have a game without players.
Suspicions
Yea I had some and I knew. Not a chance I knew my players and when they were going south.
Thoughts on debatable issues
Nothing new under the sun.
I see those reflecting with tunnel vision as I am writing this in 2020.
Volume doesn't equal skill.
Playing outside your comfort zone without a flinch does.
Too many GOW lovers, esp since the map wasn't as balanced as several others teams or 1v1.
Also many of the more "landscaped" maps I knew everytime when someone was smurfing or otherwise cuz they chose those (usually low res) and were great games, in other words players should have expanded their map prefs, which would have in turn expanded their skill (again tunnel vision)
Most memorable games/times?
I always felt the tension facing Azteca (as I know he felt as well). I feel sincerely we brought our best game everytime team or solo. I feel he felt he cannot lose against fucking Panda and I felt like he was a legit opponent with a huge ego so I can't let him win ;). We have had several games 1v1 and teams that were so back n forth its ESPN worthy. I figured out he was super fast to DK and I pull my 2nd mine guys ahead before to win a game vs him as well as I rush DK to bomb his first 9 ogres for the win...that was how the old schoolers knew the game was to be won if you want to take it down to the details of the art of war2.
What makes you memorable?
I always let opponents pick ANY map/setting no matter if teams or solo. I always set to pkt:3 and it bothered me that others didn't catch on (always on pkt:4) thinking it slowed the game down, which it did not (maybe a split second few times a game instead of lagging).
How did you get your name?
Stole it from the first TEN.net player in a game of original warcraft. I was a consistent top 50 duke nukem 3d player on there as well by the way (top 50 you play 3-4 hours no frags against other top players - thats how good they were). Was about a million players on there around 97 surprisingly and I couldn't make it to top 10 ever however...
Who was the best of all time?
I heard several people mention Dethwlkr. Definitely one of the best in team ladder on a consistent basis. I realize many people who posted on here have not had the games logged against players like warmonger and tillerman to realize how good they were (tiller smurfed all the time always caught him). Tillerman was unbeatable on sea maps 1v1 (I would know and know). Warmonger was arguably the only person I felt I was an underdog facing in a 1v1 match.
Describe your “career” from start to finish.
I played with friends and people that I personally revered towards. I intentionally stayed away from "cocky" players as allies. I'd rather punish them ;D.
Anyone can talk a big game, so I didn't find the value in speaking so much.
Any parting words?
During 95-99 couldn't think of a better game or network to play on, was a treat. Thanks for the experience!
